Health and support

Do you need someone to talk to? Are you looking for advice regarding your well-being and study situation? Do you want to know what the rules are regarding sick leave and insurance? Are you studying with a disability and looking for support? Below you will find the answers to the above questions and a bit more. Here we have gathered information and tips on where you can turn to find help beyond the union's activities.

Student union

The student union has three so-called student representatives who are experts in helping you if you encounter any problems. They are well-informed about everything related to the university, your education, and know the key people at the university. Everyone also has a duty of confidentiality and will not share what you say without your permission.

Student Health Care

At LiU, there is studenthälsan where you can turn for help and support with your health and studies. Student health services work health-promoting and preventive. They offer, among other things, conversations and counseling with curators, licensed psychotherapists, licensed nurses, conversation coaches, and health advisors. There you can get support to create a change in your well-being. In addition, the student health service also offers workshops, training sessions, and lectures on topics such as mindfulness, self-esteem, study motivation, stress, and anxiety. You can read more about the student health services' course offerings. här.

The church at the university

The student chaplains offer individual conversations about existential, mental, and physical health. They are there for you if you just want to talk to someone and welcome everyone regardless of their worldview. In some cases, the church also offers group support. Insurance

As a student and doctoral candidate, you are insured with Kammarkollegiet. The insurance is valid while you are studying on campus and during direct travel between your residence and the university. This means that if, for example, you stop to buy groceries on your way home from campus, you are no longer insured. The insurance covers accidents and illnesses caused by infections and has a deductible of 500 SEK. You can read more about the insurance and the insurance terms at LiUs webbpage and Kammarkollegiets webbpage.

You are also insured during exchange studies or internships abroad if they take place within the framework of an exchange agreement that LiU has with the host university. The insurance provides you with basic coverage and is valid during your journey between Sweden and the host country, throughout your exchange period, as well as two weeks before you start studying and an additional two weeks after you have completed your exchange studies. It covers, among other things, illness, accidents, your belongings, and includes liability coverage in case you need to pay damages. You can read more about the insurance at LiUs webbpage or Kammarkollegiets webbpage.

Sick leave

Taking sick leave as a student can be complicated since the rules for compensation during illness are not tailored for students. Depending on whether you have student aid or not, have worked before or alongside your studies, and so on, the conditions regarding when, where, and how much compensation you receive may vary. A general rule, however, is that you should always report sick to the Social Insurance Agency on the very first day. The sick leave notification is made at Försäkringskassans webbpage or by calling Försäkringskassans helpdesk: 0771-524 524

Studying with a disability

If you have a permanent or long-term disability, there is an opportunity to receive support and services in your study situation. The disability must be able to be substantiated with a certificate. With a permanent functional variation, documented reading and writing difficulties are also equated.

Application for educational support is made through the system Nais. Please note that you must wait to apply for support until you are admitted to a course or program at Linköping University. You can read more about the various forms of support for disabilities here.

If you do not have a permanent disability but a temporary injury or illness, you are not covered by special educational support. Contact the academic advisor for your course or program to get advice, support, and discuss any possible adjustments to your study path. More information can be found here.
