Engagement points
For several years now, there has been a collaboration between the Faculty of Philosophy and StuFF to award engagement points to students who choose to get involved in certain areas that both StuFF and FilFak consider important and in need of attention. Engagement points can be used when applying for study abroad programs. The assignments that are eligible for engagement points are defined in StuFF's policy document "Policy regarding engagement grading and engagement points."
Application period
LiU has three application periods for exchange semesters, and engagement points can be applied for before each occasion. The application period for engagement points at each occasion is two weeks and has the following end dates: February 1, April 1, and September 10.
The application period for studying abroad opens 2 weeks before each application period ends, and it is also when the collection of engagement points begins. The day after the deadline, StuFF receives a list of the students who have applied for exchange studies. After that, StuFF has a week to confirm the number of credits a student has to FilFak. An example of this could be the following: if the deadline for applying for studies abroad is February 1st, the application starts on January 18th. On February 2nd, StuFF receives a list from FilFak about which students have applied for engagement points. Then StuFF has until February 9th to confirm to FilFak the number of credits a student has received. If any of the dates fall on a weekend, the mentioned date still applies.
The application is submitted through the form below:

Credit for engagement points
Students may credit their engagement after they have completed their year of service or if the majority of the year of service has passed. There is no limit to how many assignments a student can engage in, but engagement points can be added up to a maximum of 2 points during the student's study period. If a student holds an engagement where the assignment itself involves another assignment that can give engagement points, the student will only receive points for the assignment that gives the highest points. An example of such a position could be a section chair who also serves as a council member for the section district. In such a case, the student would only receive 0.7 points. After a student has completed their degree, the engagement points are reset. The engagements are said to have been carried out in connection with studies at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Linköping University.
Have you had a mission and want engagement points, you can apply via the form. Below you will find answers to frequently asked questions about engagement points.
FAQ
What do I need to do?
You just need to fill out the form. StuFF will contact the person who is to certify that you have completed your assignment and then submit the points to Filfak. You don't need to attach any certificate. When you have filled out the form, you don't need to do anything else.
Will I receive a confirmation on whether I have received engagement points or not?
No, unfortunately, StuFF does not have the resources to confirm the assigned engagement points for each applicant.
Do mentors and reception organizers receive engagement points?
No, mentors and reception organizers (mentors or reception coordinators) are not included in the engagement points. However, if you have been a mentor or a master and sat on the section board, you can earn engagement points.
Do party hosts earn engagement points?
No, party organizers do not receive engagement points unless they have served on the section board in their capacity as party organizers.
I have been active in a student association at LiU, can I get engagement points then?
If you have been involved in an association, you can only earn engagement points if you have participated in associations whose purpose is to promote internationalization. Primarily, it concerns associations like ESN and ISA.
What is the difference between a class representative and a student representative?
Class representative is connected to the section or your program. It could be that you sit in meetings and have opinions about specific courses that are part of the program you are studying. You are a student representative if you have signed an agreement with StuFF. Student representatives often represent a larger group of students at, for example, the departmental or faculty level. It may happen that your section refers to a class representative as a student representative. In the application for engagement points, the definition described above applies.
How long do I need to have had my assignment to be able to apply for engagement points for the assignment?
You do not need to have completed your assignment to apply for points for it, but you need to have completed a majority of the assignment when applying for engagement points. This means that if you started a task during the autumn term, you can receive engagement points for that task in the following spring term. However, you cannot receive engagement points for a task if you have just taken office when you apply for the engagement points. How far back can I apply for engagement points? You can apply for engagement points for all engagements starting after the routine was created in 2021. The chairperson of the association or the relevant committee representative on the board must be able to certify that you have completed the assignment – if you are seeking engagement for something you did many years ago, it might be a good idea to contact the relevant party in the association in advance and inform them that StuFF will be in touch.
Why are some engagements valued more highly than others?
There are several purposes with engagement points, but one of them is to increase the attractiveness of certain types of assignments that are important for both the student union and the university. Assignments related to student representation and internationalization are important for the university to be able to conduct its operations, and therefore these types of assignments receive points. That certain commitments within the categories are worth different amounts is about how fundamental they are to the operations of the student union and LiU, but also how much time is spent by those who hold the positions. Certain assignments within the section are more highly valued because there is a cooperation agreement between the association and these positions.
How long are the data provided in the engagement points application stored?
Engagement points are saved by the student union until they have been submitted to the university. If a student does not go during the application period but applies again at a later time, a new application for engagement points must be submitted.
Where can I turn with questions?
In the StuFF board, it is the Central Work Environment Representative camo@stuff.liu.se who is responsible for engagement points. You can also write to administration@stuff.liu.se for questions regarding the form or other technical aspects.
