What is an instituitional board?

An institution is an area that works with certain subjects, for example: the Mathemathical institution (MAI) and the Institution for Behavioral Science and Learning (IBL). At LiU the institutions conduct educational work and research. LiU is set apart from other universities by having large institutions of many subjects to facilitate contacts between them.

Today there are 12 institutions at Linköpings University and StuFF has representatives at most of them. In an institutional board, you as representative are, among other things, part of the decisions regarding budget as well as employments. It is also possible to pursue issues to make the institution look after the students' needs.

Have you thought of becoming a student representative?

Here you can read more about what it entails, and what you as a student will benefit from your engagement!

A student representative is a student who is part of a board and goes to meetings with the university. The job consists of giving a students perspective in important questions abut the education and work environment at LiU. The purpose of student representatives is that students opinions are to be represented in all decisions that apply to students. The different boards at LiU work with everything from computer rooms and international studies to employment and quality of education. As a representative you also get an insight into how the university works, an understanding of your lecturer, knowledge about how to change your educational situation and be part of changes to make your education better.

It is a right!

It is legislated (Chapter 2, Section 7 of the Higher Education Act) that student representatives should be able to participate in all decision-making and preparatory bodies at the university. LiU has guidelines regarding representatives (liu-2019-02146) which state, among other things, that the university should, as far as possible, schedule meetings at times when students can attend.

Benefits

As a representative, you get a unique insight into the university's work. Some positions provide remuneration and extensions (for doctoral students). It is also a great merit to have on your CV!

Meeting report

After a student representative has attended a meeting, a report should be submitted to the union so that we know what is happening at the institutions, councils, committees, and other decision-making bodies where matters concerning students are addressed. The link for the Meeting Report can be found here. Students in GLP & ÄLP who are class representatives or sit on subject councils use this Meeting Report.
